Decor on a Dime: Little Girls Room
My clever friend Mindy, from Mindy Laven Interiors has done it again. She has transformed a little girls room on a budget and I want to live in this room!
She has such a knack for taking high end decorator ideas and recreating them for those of us on a budget. I love how this turned out! For more creative, lovely, and affordable ideas, be sure and visit her blog!
“I adore the vintage-glam feeling of this little girls room. The dimensions of the room initially presented some design dilemmas that ended up being huge style bonuses. Don’t you love it when it works out like that?
Because the space was long and narrow and we wanted to leave an area for fun and play, it seemed like there was no good place for the bed. Here’s where the fun comes in…We actually turned a Queen sized mattress sideways and placed it against the wall. That’s right..this is a Queen sized bed! This orientation of the bed made it possible for 2 bookcases to flank the bed and still allowed for plenty of floor space for creative play.
A second design challenge was finding the perfect headboard. The bed on the side called for a King sized headboard but with a low window a traditional headboard wasn’t going to work. Enter-in two padded bulletin boards from PBTeen that fit perfectly, cost very little and coordinated beautifully with the bed linens we had chosen.
I’m thrilled with the result. These two Pool Peyton bulletin boards from PbTeen add just the right amount of color and style and look just like a headboard but at a fraction of the price. Proving once again that necessity really is the mother of invention!
The Ikat Trisha Trellis bedding from PB Kids is so fun and really pops against this aqua wall. While gold accents like the curtain pole and wooden words on the bookcase really turn up the style quotient on this charming space.
Here’s a pic of the wall opposite the bed where we were able to leave plenty of space for imaginative play. The
gold sunburst mirrors keep it hip and chic.
Every girl needs a chandelier and this refurbished, vintage number is the icing on the cake for this gorgeous girls room!
The last piece of this puzzle might be the most fun! The rug that we used was actually an indoor/outdoor rug from Target! The color was perfect, the price was fantastic and you can’t beat the durability. This aqua number from the Threshold Collection was the perfect finishing touch for this fun and fanciful space.”
