How I use my Sharebuilder Account
I have had my ING Direct Sharebuilder account for over two years now. I have a set dollar amount taken automatically out of my checking account and directly deposited into my Sharebuilder account. This method works the best for me, but you have complete flexibility in how you set up your account.
When I began, I chose two stocks that I automatically bought each month. When I had enough to buy a no load mutual fund (some are $1,000 and some are $2,500) I switched from buying individual stocks to automatic investments into a mutual fund. Once you meet the opening minimum for a mutual fund, additional investments into the fund can be made for $150 in most cases.
My account runs itself. I am investing for the long term so I don’t make trades or try to time the market. This works best for me. As I look back, I don’t think I would have had the discipline to set aside as much money as I have by using the automatic investment feature. I started with a small amount and have adjusted that upwards a few times as I learn to live on less and save more.
