I’m taking a time-out from saving money today to encourage you to start your own family blog. They are becoming the new baby books! So many of my readers link to More With Less Today from their personal blogs. I always love hearing from them and visiting their sites.
I started my blog in January of this year and I didn’t know a blog from a frog. If I can do it, you can too. You can start a free blog in minutes through Google and no-one needs to see it until you give out your blog address. You can even keep in private and only allow invited guests to your blog.
It could be a fun family project to write about your trips, milestones and to share pictures with family and friends. Yes Facebook does the same thing, sort of, but no-one on Facebook wants to read an entire page about Johnnie’s winning goal, complete with pictures. I’m sure family and friends would love to read about it and how cool for Johnnie to see his story in print. Johnny can visit the family blog when he has kids of his own.
In an nutshell, here is how to start a free blog in Google. Go to www.google.com and sign up for a free Gmail address. If you already have one, you may want to get another separate address for your blog. Log in and go to the top tool bar and choose “more” (last choice). On the next page, choose “even more”. On the next page choose Blogger-the orange icon.
Choose a template (you can change it with a click later). Pick a name for your site, and start writing. It is really that simple. Your blog name will be email@example.com
If you have been thinking about more than a simple family blog , perhaps one for business or to promote a product, you probably want to have your own domain name and have it be hosted you, (www.yourblogname.com.)
These blogs are considered more professional and certainly come with all the bells and whistles you need. If you don’t know where to begin, if you need guidance or just want someone to set it up for you, I can highly recommend Joel Williams. He calls himself the Blog Tech Guy and you can reach him HERE.
I put a link to him on my site because I am such a fan. His prices are so reasonable (under $300.00 to set up a blog) or you can buy his series of “how-to” videos and do it yourself for $95.00. He is so patient, quick to respond and so knowledgeable. His customer service is fantastic.
OK, start blogging and be sure to send me your link.
