Today’s reader question from Cynthia is “What is Listia?”
I wrote about Listia way back in 2009 and did some current research to learn that site has gotten even better.
With Listia, everything is FREE! “Listia is like Ebay, except everything is free…” is a quote from the LA Times.
The concept is unique and takes a minute to understand. Users get free credits for signing up, listing products and referring friends. When you bid on a free item, you use the number of credits you have to try to win the item in their auction.
I list something I no longer want and earn credits to pick up something I do want, for free. Pretty cool idea, right? Plus it keep stuff out of the landfills.
How Listia Works:
1) Declutter – Sell all the stuff you don’t use – from DVDs to clothing to toys, for free!
2) Earn Credits – Rack up credits when others win your auction listings.
3) Reward Yourself – Discover and get stuff you’ll love from other members or the Listia Rewards Store!
Spring Cleaning Time!
You can list items you no longer need on Listia. To find items that may interest you, search the site by price, distance, category and time until the auction ends.
From the FAQ Section of the Listia website:
Is everything REALLY free?
Yes. Listia charges no fees nor does it cost anything to participate. All items listed by Listia, such as Reward Auctions, offer free shipping. It costs nothing to list a new auction or add photos. We encourage everyone who signs up to get involved by giving away items you no longer need, before receiving items for free from other users. However, no giving is required and no purchase is necessary. Every new user starts with free credits that can be used to bid and win auction items (by the way, bidding doesn’t cost anything either). Listia is very proud of the fact that it costs absolutely no money to participate, while providing an exciting new way for people give and get free stuff.
Take a look, it is free to join, and see if there is anything you would like to have. Shop for free, sounds good to me!
