Which Stores Have Layaway Plans for 2017?
Kmart Layaway Plans
Layaway at Kmart is available in-store and online. Payments can be made either way, but all pickups must be made in-store. Layaway is only available at select locations and is not available on certain items, like flammable products, magazines, prescriptions, cigarettes, photos, and food. Layaway merchandise will be returned to stock seven days after a missed payment.
Kmart layaway highlights:
- 8-week contract available for online and in-store purchases
- Service fee: $5
- Down payment: one dollar for Shop Your Way members (free to join)
- Cancellation fee: $10
- 8 weeks for online and in-store and 12-week contract for in-store (only applicable to purchases $300+)
- Service fee: $10
- Down payment: $10
- Cancellation fee: $20

Sears Layaway Plans
Layaway at Sears is available in-store and online, and payments can be made in either place. Pickups can be made in-store or they can be delivered. Layaway contracts can be canceled at the store where you set up your contract. Contracts are automatically canceled after a seven-day grace period of missing your payment.

Sears layaway highlights:
- 8-week contract: for online and in-store purchases
- Service fee: $5
- Down payment: free in stores and 1 cent online
- Cancellation fee: $15
- Payments: every two weeks (4 payments total)
- 12-week contract: in-store only (applicable only to purchases $400+)
- Service fee: $10
- Down payment: free
- Cancellation fee: $25
- Payments: every two weeks (6 payments total)

Toys R Us/Babies R Us Layaway Plans
The program used to be available only during the holidays but is now available year-round. Payments can be made in-store or online. The layaway program is available at all Toys R Us stores and is available on everything except special orders, food, formula, and clothing.
Toys R Us and Babies R Us layaway highlights:
- For online and in-store purchases
- Service fee: free during the “free layaway” period, which runs through December 14. Otherwise, you must pay $5.
- Down payment: 10% of the total cost
- Cancellation fee: $10
- Shipping: After final payment is made, the store will ship (free on orders over $19) to you or you can pick up in-store depending on your preference.
- All payments can be made at any register or online, 24 hours a day. Make your final payment in store, and take your items home right away. Or, if you make your final payment online, you will be notified of the earliest time you can pick up your items.

Burlington Coat Factory
In store layaway is available at Burlington Coat Factory. Visit the customer service desk at any Burlington store to learn more about our Layaway program.
Burlington Coat Factory layaway highlights:

- Service fee: $5, plus tax where applicable
- Down payment: 20%
- Cancellation fee: $10, plus tax where applicable

Marshalls
Marshalls offers layaway in some of its stores, and the merchandise must be paid off and picked up within 30 days. Use the store locator on the Marshalls website to locate a participating store near you (noted by a hanger icon). Layaway is not offered to items on markdown, jewelry, food, and furniture.
Marshalls layaway highlights:
- For in-store purchases only
- Service fee: $5 (non-refundable) Minimum payment amounts and create fees may vary by state
- Down payment: $10 or 10% down payment (whichever is greater)
- Cancellation fee: $5 in most states
- Jewelry, items that have been marked down, food items and furniture cannot be placed on layaway
- Merchandise must be paid off and picked up within 30 days

TJ Maxx
Layaway: is available at most locations To find a location that offers layaway, simply use the TJ Maxx store locator and if the store has a hanger icon, then that store offers layaway.

- Service fee: $5 (nonrefundable)
- Down payment: $10 or 10% whichever is greater
- Cancellation fee: $5
- You will have up to 30 days to make payments

Layaway Plans for the Holidays
Walmart Layaway Plans

Many Walmart stores offer year-round layaway on jewelry purchases. The majority of Walmart layaway offers will begin in September 2017 if past years are an indicator.
Layaway at Walmart typically begins in early September and runs through mid-December. Payments can be made at any Walmart store. In past years, individual items must be $15 or greater, and the total purchase must be $50 or greater. Final payment and pickup must be made at the same store where layaway was initiated (or the order will be canceled).
Layaway is available for electronics, toys, infant toys, infant furniture, large furniture, auto electronics, select sporting goods, small appliances and jewelry, but excludes wireless phones that require contracts. Some stores offer year-round layaway on jewelry purchases.
Walmart layaway highlights from last year:
- For in-store purchases only
- Service fee: $0
- Down payment: $10 or 10%, whichever is greater
- Cancellation fee: $10
- Final payment: Due December 12th at the same store it was initiated

GameStop 2016 Layaway Program

GameStop offered customers the opportunity to purchase the following items through its 2016 holiday layaway program:
Consoles & Controller:

- Xbox One S Battlefield 1 (500GB) bundle
- Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Special Edition (500GB) bundle

- Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller
Headsets:
- PS4 Sony Gold Wireless headset
- HyperX Revolver Gears of War Edition headset
- Stealth 520 Wireless Sur PS4 headset

Hard drives:

The holiday layaway program provides customers a simple and easy way to pay this holiday season. A $25 minimum deposit is required to start a layaway contract. All layaways must be paid off and picked up at the store location where the original deposit was made by the end of operating hours on December 21.
Additionally, customers can save on these products by trading in their old video games, consoles, accessories, and more.
Due to legal restrictions, however, it is not available at GameStops in the District of Columbia or Maryland.
Gamestop layaway highlights (2016):
- For in-store purchases on certain game systems
- Service fee: None
- Down payment: $25
- Payment: Trades are acceptable forms of payment; customers are not required to make scheduled payments.
- Pickup: Must be made where the layaway was initiated.

H-E-B Plus!

Look for this Southern grocer to offer layaway at its Plus! locations for the holidays. H-E-B Plus stores focus on non-food merchandise. In 2016, there was no opening fee.
H-E-B Plus! 2016 layaway highlights:
- For in-store purchases only
- Service fee: Free as long as you purchase in full by December 14, 2016. However, there will be a $5 charge for customers who cancel their layaway plans or fail to pay in full by December 14, 2016.
- Down payment: $10 or 10%, whichever is greater
- Cancellation fee: $5
- Available for toys, electronics, appliances, patio furniture and grills, and coolers.
