Easy to Make Classic Broccoli Salad Recipe
Broccoli Salad Ingredients:
- 2 heads fresh broccoli, chopped in small pieces approx. 8 cups
- 1 small yellow onion, sliced thin (can also use red onion if preferred)
- ½ pound bacon (you could use bacon bits but the bigger pieces of bacon are better)
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp milk or cream
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar (can substitute apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar)
- optional – 1 cup of shredded cheese to sprinkle before serving
Instructions
Step 1: Place bacon in a deep skillet and cook over medium-high heat until browned. Let it cool and crumble.
Step 2: Cut the broccoli into bite-size pieces and cut the onion into thin bite-size slices.
Step 3: In a large bowl combine broccoli, cooked bacon, sliced almonds (optional) and mix well.
Step 4: Prepare the dressing by mixing the mayonnaise and milk until well combined, add the sugar, and stir.
Note: Add the vinegar to the mayonnaise mixture and whisk until smooth. (You may use more or less sugar according to taste.)
Step 5: Stir dressing into the broccoli mixture until well coated.
Step 6: Chill the Broccoli Salad, serve it cold and enjoy!
Notes: If desired, you can add 1 cup of shredded cheese before serving.
