  • 4 large ripe tomatoes
  • 12 oz. fresh mozzarella (large ball)
  • 1 large bunch fresh basil, washed and dried
  • 3 tablespoons high-quality extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

How to Make Classic Caprese Salad with Rich Balsamic Glaze

#1. Thoroughly wash and pat dry the tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. Slice the tomatoes evenly from top to bottom into approximately ¼-inch thick slices. Discard the top and bottom slices to ensure uniformity. #2. Cut the fresh mozzarella into ¼-inch thick slices to match the tomato slices. #3. On each plate, layer a tomato slice, followed by a slice of mozzarella and a large fresh basil leaf. Repeat this pattern until each plate has one tomato and approximately 3 oz. of mozzarella, finishing with a tomato slice. #4. Generously drizzle each plate with the extra virgin olive oil to enhance the flavors. #5. Heat 1 cup of balsamic vinegar over medium-high heat in a saucepan until it reaches a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and stir continuously until the vinegar reduces to about 1/3 of its original volume and becomes thick and syrupy. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. #6. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the assembled salad. Season with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste. Garnish with extra basil sprigs if desired. Enjoy!
