How to Shop at Lowe’s Like a Money Saving Pro

We show you how to shop at Lowe's like a money saving pro by sharing our expert tips. Be sure and check these money-saving tips for Lowe's.

Here are our expert tips to Shop at Lowe’s Like a Money Saving Pro.

1. Check the Daily Deals Section

Every day online, you can find deeply discounted merchandise and clearance items in the Lowe’s Savings Center.

2. Check for a rebate

Before you purchase, visit the Lowe’s online rebate center and find current rebates. You may be surprised at the hundreds of items that offer rebates right now. You can also submit rebates online and check the status of a rebate you have submitted.

3. Do a price match for an additional 10% off

10% off price match – if you find a lower price on an identical item at a local retail competitor, bring in the competitor’s current ad and they will be the price by 10%. Excludes installation labor, to the competitor’s closeout, special order, discontinued, clearance, liquidation or to damaged items. Limited to reasonable quantities.

4. Don’t pay for shipping

Most orders of $49 or more will automatically before taxes, or fees will qualify for free shipping in the 48 contiguous states. If you are spending less than $49, you can choose free in-store pick up to avoid shipping fees.

Appliances get free local delivery which can yield big savings. When you are comparing prices, check to see if there is a delivery charge with Lowe’s competitors. Many of Lowe’s appliances also come with free installation but check the website for specifics.

5. Don’t pay for return shipping either

Return or exchange your online purchase at any Lowe’s store, for ease of convenience and time.

6. Use a competitor’s coupon (your mileage may vary)

It’s not listed on their website but it is widely known that most Lowe’s stores will take competitors coupons but often it is up to the manager. I have used Home Depot coupons and Ace Hardware coupons at my Lowe’s store without any issues. It’s worth a try for in-stock merchandise found in-store (not online). Come back and tell us how you made out!

7. Get the difference back if the price drops

The Lowe’s Price Protection Policy is valid for 30 days. If you purchase something and the price drops, you have 30 days to ask for a price adjustment. If you make a big ticket purchase, add a reminder to your calendar and check the price for the next 30 days.

8. Buy a discounted gift card

I have used Raise.com to purchase discounted gift cards. If you don’t know exactly how much you need, then buy a card for a little less and pay the difference separately. Typically you can expect to save around 4-5% but I have seen discounted gift cards for Lowe’s as high as 10% off.

9. Use a Cash Back Site

Ebates is the cash back site I have used for years. If you are shopping at Lowe’s online, log in to Ebates first and then shop as usual. Every quarter, you are sent a check for the rebates you earn from shopping online once certain minimums are met. New users get a bonus gift card after their first purchase. * To qualify for a Welcome Bonus, you must be a new member and make minimum qualifying purchases totaling at least twenty-five dollars ($25) within ninety (90) days of becoming a Member.

10. Check the end caps and the in-store clearance areas

At Lowe’s, you can often find clearance items and price markdowns on end caps in the store. If you see open box items, floor model and damaged items politely ask if they can be discounted even more. It never hurts to ask!

11. Got a brown thumb?

One-Year Plant Guarantee -If your trees, shrubs or perennials don’t survive a year, Lowe’s will replace them free of charge. Just bring in the plant and your receipt.

Bonus for Veterans

If you have served in the military, you can get 10% off with proof of service on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veteran’s Day.

If you are currently on active duty or are retired from the military (with proof of service), you can get 10% off every day. This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those who are currently serving, retired veterans or VA recipients. Get more information about qualifications and required proof of service here.
