Do you have something to donate but not sure who would want it? I found two sources that can help you match up some great causes with the items that you have to donate. If you have large items that need to be picked up, these sites can help you to find charities who can schedule pickups for your items.
Use the DonationTown website to find your charity of choice, charities that pick up items for free, acceptable items wanted by individual charities and schedule a pick up right from their website. The charities will also provide an IRS tax-deduction receipt for your donations.
You can choose from over 300 charities in their network and support charities that benefit veterans, cancer research and other illnesses, medical conditions, homelessness, hunger, animals, and many more. You can search their database and find your favorites and perhaps discover new charities to support in your area. I first read about DonationTown in Family Circle Magazine.
Now you can find a great home for all that stuff you no longer need, get a tax donation, and do some good in the process!
Why not make this a family affair? Have the kids go through their clothes, bookshelves, and toy boxes and let them get involved in picking the charity to donate their unwanted items.
