Kitchen Notes

  • The cooking time for this recipe will depend on several factors: the internal starting temperature, the size, the thickness of the steak, and the desired level of doneness. The steak was removed from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking and cooked medium rare for this recipe.
  • Important: Check the recommended guidelines for the strip steak for your specific air fryer model before preparing this recipe. For best results, check out these guidelines on suggested internal temperatures for red meat: https://www.certifiedangusbeef.com/kitchen/doneness.php
  • Time-Saving Tip: Prepare the roasted garlic and compound butter in advance to save time when preparing this easy recipe.

#2. Transfer the butter mixture to a sheet of plastic wrap, then shape it into a log, as shown, and cover it tightly. Refrigerate until firm and ready to use, approximately one hour.

#3. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking. Brush each cut of steak with olive oil and generously season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

#4. Pre-heat the air fryer to 400°F and set the timer to 8 minutes for medium rare.

#5. When the air fryer is ready, add the beef cuts to the basket in a single layer without overcrowding. Close the lid and air fry them for 4 minutes.

#6. Open the lid and turn the steaks using silicon tongs. Close the lid and air fry the steak for another 3-4 minutes or until the pieces reach 130 degrees F (for a medium-rare steak).

#7. Remove the steaks from the air fryer and cover them loosely with aluminum foil. Rest for 5-10 minutes to let the juices settle. (The internal temperature will rise several degrees while the steaks rest).

Kitchen Tips

  • If you choose to prepare the garlic alongside other recipes, you can adjust the number of heads of garlic used in this simple recipe, along with the exact temperature and cooking time. Make the garlic remain in the air fryer long enough to become soft, tender, golden brown, and without drying out.
  • Roasted garlic is nice to have on hand because it can be used in many ways, especially for a main dish like a steak dinner. It deepens and enhances the flavors of your favorite dishes. You can also try it in your favorite sauces and soups. This process also makes it easy to use to make delicious compound butter.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 20-25 minutes
Yields: 3 heads roasted garlic

Ingredients for Roasted Garlic Butter

  • 3 large heads of garlic
  • 1-2 T. extra virgin olive oil

How To Make Roasted Garlic Butter

#1. Turn on the air fryer and select the “Air Crisp” function. Set the temperature to 400°F and adjust the timer to 20 minutes. Press “Start” to pre-heat the unit.

#2. While the unit preheats, remove the papery layers of the garlic. Carefully slice off the top of each head of garlic with a sharp knife to ensure each clove is exposed.

#3. Drizzle some olive oil onto each head of garlic. Wrap each head in a small square of aluminum foil.

#4. Once the air fryer is preheated, place the prepared garlic in the basket and close the lid. After 20 minutes, check the garlic to make sure it is roasted through. If more time is necessary, rewrap the garlic and return to the air fryer for several more minutes.

#5. When the cooking time is complete, use the roasted garlic immediately or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or one week. Enjoy!
