Ingredients for Homemade Apple Fritters Recipe with a Sweet Vanilla Glaze

  • 2-3 apples (Green apples/Granny Smith preferred)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice or cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp lemon juice (to cover freshly cut apples)
  • 2.5 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying

For the Glaze

  • 1.5 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 tsp clear vanilla (regular vanilla also works but it won’t be a bright white)
  • 3-4 tsp milk or water

  • Apple Corer 
  • Measuring Cups
  • Baking Sheet 
  • Parchment Paper
  • Hand-held or stand mixer
  • Rubber Spatula

How To Make Homemade Apple Fritters

#1. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, apple pie spice, and salt.

#2. Peel, core, and dice apples, and toss in lemon juice in a small bowl.

#3. Using a handheld or stand mixer with a paddle attachment, mix together the sugar and eggs until combined (frothy).

#4. Begin heating canola or vegetable oil on the stove on medium-high.

#5. Reduce the speed to low and add in the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Pour in the milk in a slow continuous stream so as to not break the forming batter.  

Note: If too much milk is accidentally poured in, allow the batter time to absorb it before adding more.

#6. Fold in the apples using a rubber spatula.

Test Fry: Drop ¼ cup batter or (use an ice cream scooper) and let fry until golden brown. Flip and fry until the second side is golden brown. Remove from oil and allow to dry on paper towels.

#7. Test the doneness of your fritters by inserting a knife in the center.  If it is still raw in the center your oil is too hot and you should reduce the heat.

How To Make the Glaze

#1. Prepare glaze and drizzle over apple fritters.  If you prefer to drip your fritters in the glaze, you’ll need to add more milk to loosen up the glaze into icing. Let dry completely and enjoy!
