How To Make These 5-Ingredient Dried Apricot Appetizers
#1. Start by placing the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat. Keep a close eye on them and stir frequently to prevent burning. (Note: Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor beautifully.) Once the walnuts are golden and fragrant, transfer them to a plate and let them cool completely.
#2. Take each dried apricot and spread a small amount of whipped cream cheese. A butter knife works best for this task.
#3. Once the walnuts have cooled, press one walnut into the cream cheese on each apricot. It will help it stick and create a nice texture.
#4. For a touch of sweetness, drizzle a little honey over each appetizer. To avoid a sticky mess, consider placing each apricot on individual dishes for drizzling, then refrigerate them for a few minutes to let the honey set.
#5. For a pop of color and flavor, add a small torn basil leaf on top of each apricot. Just a tiny piece will do!
#6. These appetizers can be served immediately or covered and refrigerated. If you plan to serve them later, wait to add the honey until just before serving to keep the walnuts crisp. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
- One mistake I made was putting the still warm walnuts on top of the cream cheese and although it did not affect the delicious taste, it caused the cream cheese to melt a bit and did not look as pretty.
How to Store Your Walnuts
To keep your walnuts fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. For more detailed tips on storing nuts, check out this helpful guide.
